Re: Bruce Lipton

You got my point, Psychosceptic. Everyone should question assertions that DNA determines our state of mind.... instead of the actual circumstances we encounter in the external world. Questioning the DNA dogma is healthy cynicism.

Re: Bruce Lipton

The greatest irony of all is that many of the people promoting optimism are unwittingly feeding a view of human nature that is cynical in the very worst sense. Take psychologist and neuroscientist Elaine Fox, who is on Horizon tonight [BBC TV] talking about her book Rainy Brain, Sunny Brain . Like ...

Re: Sinead or ?

That 'comedian' is another type of child abuse apologist. He's implying that child abuse is mainly the fault of immigrants.

Re: Sinead or ?

I don't know what "Take note, socialists!" is supposed to mean. In all the states where legislators concerned for social welfare have any influence corporal punishment has already been outlawed in public schools. The 20 states that still allow physical 'discipline' in state schools are all...

Re: Sinead or ?

The little girl beaten to death by her parents five or six years ago--the incident which lit my fuse--still figures prominently. Six years ago? Children are beaten to death in the United States EVERY WEEK! See: http://badbreeders.net/ However, I am delighted to learn about these initiatives. Activi...

Re: Note to Americans

I didn't mean to be facetious when I said the comment by "godchaser33" was hilarious. Put it this way.... Were the Nazis trying to defend human rights for German youth? The brother and sister activists for Peace & Justice, Hans & Sophie Scholl (Aryan Germans), were executed by the ...

Re: Note to Americans

"Alice who?" she said. She hadn't heard of Jonathan Pincus either. I'd say she was more than grateful for the information. As a therapist for state forensic hospitals she would likely be open-minded to this kind of information. The difficulty is to influence conservatives who are in denia...

Re: Note to Americans

I didn't detect that sf said legislation ought not to be necessary. In the real world it's the only way to speed up the spread of non-abusive, "helping mode" child-rearing. I have great admiration for Paula Flowe's activism. Political and legislative action is what's needed. If you type th...

Re: Note to Americans

Steve, in response to my post about the corporal punishment ban in Khartoum's primary schools you wrote: All we're talking about is the fact that one plus one is two. If the rights of children were recognized the rights of adults would take care of themselves. This is something Eleanor Roosevelt emp...

Re: Note to Americans

The local paper is about to publish my opinion on this, they told me a couple days ago, in which I urge people to write to Washington. Might be printed now. I haven't checked. Good. Please publish it here when it appears. If you want more ammunition there is a report by Human Rights Watch about cor...

Re: Note to Americans

I hope the "Ending Corporal Punishment in Schools" bill stands a better chance than the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Senator DeMint of South Carolina said last week.... "And when we have a parent that abuses a child, in our country, we have laws to protect our children. So w...

Why, we even got one of THESE: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/10061 Saw it with my own eyes this summer. We'll just see who has the last laugh when the rain starts falling! Is Noah's Ark being rebuilt in case there's another disaster like New Orleans? It's not easy to prove that hurricanes ar...

Re: Miscellaneous Video

Every religious individual interprets it on his or her terms and act upon that. Then they justify it by arguing quotes from the religious group they belong to. When I think of progressive thinkers, the pope is at the bottom of my list. The pope has always been an opportunist, always trying to catch...

Re: Miscellaneous Video

It's a funny country, the US. If in Europe a political leader would say he would pray every evening to God, he would be locked up in an institution. There has been a lot of discussion about it on the Topica Psychohistory list. One example: Religion And Morality In Europe . I see a difference betwee...

Re: Miscellaneous Video

I liked the journalist's opinion piece at the end of the "Top Psychiatric Researcher Dr. Biederman Caught Lying" article. In fact, I liked the way the whole thing was written. I'm adding my response in this thread because I have a tip which relates to the title of the topic.... Miscellaneo...
